MY '54 MAINLINE TUDOR HAS A DOME LIGHT THAT DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE THE WIRES TO IT HAVE NO POWER.  THIS IS THE ULTRA "PLAIN JANE" MODEL SO IT WAS NEVER FITTED WITH DOOR SWITCHES, INSTEAD THERE ARE RUBBER PLUGS IN THE DOOR JAM SWITCH  HOLES.  DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE POWER FOR THE DOME LIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO BE CONNECTED IN THE HARNESS AND HOW THE WIRE IS ROUTED FROM THE COWL TO THE CENTER OF THE HEADLINER?   ( I WOULD RATHER NOT START TAKING  MY GOOD ORIGINAL INTERIOR APART LOOKING FOR THE WIRE).  THANKS

Speculation - the wire probably connects to the light switch dimmer switch so when you turn the knob all the way  (probably) to the left the light will come on.  Routing - probably from the light switch to the left kick panel where it follows the rest of the wires through the rocker panel and then up the post to the fixture.

While I have a Victoria and the interior lights are on the rear pillar, this is how the wires are run on mine..

Paul....my '54 Skyliner has the original wiring harness  (same wiring as your Vicky) and the dome as well as the under dash lights come on as soon as either door is opened when either of the push button door jam switches are activated and without touching the headlight switch.   This means that the power is always hot to the door switches without turning the headlight switch.  My Mainline has no door jam switches but there is a switch on the dome light which probably means that the wire to the light is probably supposed to be  hot all the time although I don't know where the power is picked up.  Alan

ok = my speculation was wrong.  However, the wire from the light may come in by way of the area around the left kickpanel.  Maybe this will help you find the source of power.  The source still may be the light switch as Ford, in these years, connected a number of things to the light switch, such as the back up lights.  Maybe a terminal that is always hot.

Just tossing out ideas.

On my ‘54, the light switch does not have a provision for activating the interior lights like my ‘59 Ford does. It has door switches but the diagrams I found seemed to indicate there should be a third switch in parallel with the door switches. There was an appropriate hole on the bottom edge of the dash left of the column so I added a toggle switch to manually activate the interior lights.

peeeot - do you know or can look to see what the factory wire is that supplies power (assuming you have factory color coded wires) to the light?  The color codes  may help ,Alan in trying to get the wire he is looking for

Rhetorical questions: Is the dome light a single light on the headliner? Or is it a light on each pillar? Does this dome light or lights, each have a switch?

This is what I see on my wiring diagram. Mounted on the engine side firewall are the two circuit breakers with the 14 amp fuse at the top. A green-yellow tracer wire from the fuse goes to the interior light switch or switches. From the switch, a black- blue tracer wire goes to the light. The fuse above the circuit breakers is labeled "interior lights."  Just a thought, are the circuit breakers/fuse still on the firewall after the 12 volt conversion?

I believe the wiring diagram lacks clarity; it shows the switch separate of the light fixture.

Alan, did you find the starter relay, solenoid?

Hi Pat and thanks for your help.  Yes I found an original starter solenoid.  On the wiring, I will trace the blue/black wire from the dome light to the fuse on the firewall to see why there is no power to the light.  Thanks again, Alan   PROBLEM SOLVED THANKS!!
