I just put Go Fast Math's HP calculator to the test by using Ted's numbers for his Stock Iron Heads Can Make Over 1 HP/Cubic Inch engine. Ted's engine made 315 HP @ 5800 rpm. However, Go Fast Math's HP calculator said that the same engine will peak at 256 HP @ 4084 rpm. All Go Fast's calculator requires are type of intake manifold (stock dual plane), Dynamic compression Ratio (7.99) Camshaft Intake Duration @ .050 (228) Displacement, and Number of Cylinders, and Peak Intake Flow (I used 175 cfm for stock, non-ported G heads based on a cylinder head comparison test and ford-y-block.com) Obviously, a lot is being left on the table. I'm sure everyone agrees that Ted's dyno numbers are the more reliable of the two.

It is interesting to point out that Ted's engine made 250.4 HP (not peak) at 4,100 rpm, and the 1957 D Code 312 was rated 245 HP @ 4,400 rpm.
