We spent some time tuning  the engine, it was a good day.  Todd Ferguson  and Joe Cebe  were in on the action.  We even got Jon Cloud to pop his head in for a while.  It was nice to see Steve and the resto f the Westech crew

Thanks for sharing.  Very stout indeed.

That thing is a runner, nice torque curve, good job

Nice job guys   And with Mummert parts providing the steam... That has to be close to biggest horsepower ever from a Y...  Hard to see the raw numbers   Certainly the best HP/CU.IN.  Did you convince Brule' to get on board with the Y Block movement?

Its beastly Royce, its not about printing numbers though.  These 902 dyno's are stingy Westechs dyno reads virtually identical to the one at JE pistons.
The initial breakin on the local Superflow 901 showed numbers around 630hp.
Alot went into this build. The original 355 rotating assembly from Todd Fergusons  Falcon was combined the 2016 EMC top end as a starting foundation.

Interesting pan design and great power up to and over 7000 rpm with a wet sump. The gentleman who designed and made the pan I use on my wet sump GMC 6 told me the is a lot of horsepower to be made with good/correct design.

Always thought highly of center sumps.  Most cars its a non starter, but this one let it happen.

Holy Mackerel! that is flat out awesome numbers all the way around.

I am reminded of what a race official said to me at last June's Fast Fords. "I just can't believe how the guys constantly thrash these Y Blocks!" We gained a lot of respect among the FE crowd. They were impressed by both the horsepower output and the abuse that the engines were receiving - without catastrophic failure. The only issue I can recall had to do with a driveshaft that got wrenched in two!

Octane?

The engine is out of the white T-Bird.  The car went 9.70 @ 138mph a months back at Bakersfield. The 60'ft was off .08 hundredths from Sacramento, after chasing it around we figured out it was slipping forward clutch in the C4.   The cars will be running C Gas which is a 9.60 class.  We've made a few skunk works changes to the chassis so I think it will cover the number without any problem.

The engine is running on VP Q-16

Will the Mummerts be offering this as a crate engine?   Smile

VP-16 is $20/gallon. OMG Crying

Photo caption; "Well would you look at that! Maybe if we stare at it long enough it'll fix itself?" Tongue

Don't go pricing MR-12, I've always thought of Q-16 as mid grade race fuel.

I can't tell from the photos what carbs this is running? Anyone?
By Joe-JDC - 2 Years Ago
There is quite a bit of information on Speed Talk under the Vintage section about this 355Y build.  The carbs are custom billet three circuit carbs.  You can read on Don Terrill's Speed Talk without being a member.   Joe-JDC

Thanks! I will check that out.

What's the price tag on that engine?
By John Mummert - 2 Years Ago
The engine has been a revolving R&D peice for the last 5 years or so.  Some of the core parts were purchased 5 years ago so prices certainly havent gone down.  Its not a cheap date.

Just curious, is the C4 original to the white T-Bird? If so it was built by TCI for use up to 1000 HP.

There are couple race transmissions, in rotation for the car.  This particular tranny had 2.20 low.  I think one of the clutch pack seals was faulty, it leaked checked good during assembly. This particular tranny has alot of line pressure 280lbs.

Thanks for the info.

You need to loan that engine to Tim for his LSR  C/Gas Roadster…
