I just read in the latest Hot Rod Magazine a special on the Santa Maria Drag Strip, two 57’ Fords are noted as “Lightweight Factory Specials.” I had no idea they were made…
Any more information on these cars.
Thanks

I dropped Hot Rod magazine a long time ago because they weren't good anymore.  They hate Fords and don't seem to know anything about them.

I've never herd of a factory lightweight. I think the lightest would be a business coupe that didn't have a rear seat or rear roll down windows.

Yeah Jim, you're probably right. And with no radio, heater or clock and without undercoating. Ultra stripper.

The cars are: A white car the Patterson Ford Super Stock Fairlane driven by Art Harold .
A black SuperStock Ford owned an driven by Marcel D’Avignon. One of the first factory built lightweight supercharged Fairlanes sponsored by Homer C Thompson Ford of Santa Barbara.
Santa Maria Patterson Ford also campaigned a 55 Fairlane as B/Gas with a fuel injected 272 built by Bob Joehnck of Santa Barbara

Information passed on isn't always correct or by people who don't know.. They say the black one was a Fairlane,WRONG it's a Custom 300. The white one is a Custom and NOT a Fairlane either.

Regardless of the model mistakes I find the Super Stocks pretty interesting cars of that time
 and worthy of more info.

one worthy note no SCRUB Super Stocks were  noted.

Agreed, S/S were always my favorites.
