292 blower motor cam question

I am currently in the process of building a 60 over 292 with a Ybloke manifold and 471. It’s time to select a cam for it. Will be going in my model A hot rod with a 5 speed teemed and 336 gears. Will see no track time just for buzzing around the street. Just talked to Isky and they recommended 301300 grind. What do you think have built and driven Yblocks for close to 50 years but never a blower motor. MIKE

This is an opinion, but I think that is a lot more duration than you need for your blower motor, and also I would put it on a 112 lobe separation, not 108....  Take a look at the specs on the 57 Ford factory blower cam and see if you can find a cam close to that

I would use a wide LSA with a blower, preferably 114. Also you want to minimize overlap. It make no sense to have both valves open while building pressure.

I’ll agree with the previous responses in that the Isky 301300 cam is both way too much duration and the lobe centerline is too narrow.  As a general rule, you do not want the camshaft for a street driven blower application to be less than 110° and that’s for those applications where the boost is not being applied very often.  A 110° lobe centerline will give a better low end response when not in 'boost' mode but will have more 'blow thru' when under boost.  112-114° lobe centers are typical for blown applications.

Hopefully, you are going to use 5750-471 cylinder heads/w 82cc combustion chambers.

So the 301300 Isky Cam Card I have (thanks to Moonshadow and Ted) indicates a 110 degree lobe center, but Intake Timing Duration of 264 and a Exhaust timing duration of 272. So is this  the major modification from the stock Isky 301300 grind?

According to Isky's website, your cam card specs are not for the 301300 cam. The 301300 has an advertised duration of 286/with duration @ .050 250, and the LSA is 108. RPM range is 3000-6000. I would not use that cam on anything but a normally aspirated race engine.

The cam card is for the Isky 301 but it is a special grind that I will be using in my blown Y block. Same grind that "Moonshadow" is using in his motor.

The blower cam that Mummert produced in the early 2000s is 226 @ .050, 274 adv and 112 sep.  It is a copy of the Ford cam, from what I understood at the time.  I think this is what Frank runs in his F-code.

That is the cam I would use.. It's about perfect for a blown hot street engine

Try John Mummert first.. If he can't help, a stroll through the various cam catalogs should find a cam close to those specs..

My last cam was a custom grind (Clay Smith IIRC) that I ordered from J Mummert. Properly machined for the oil groove, and came with the sheet from the Cam Dr. Well worth the effort of catching up with him, getting his opinion, and knowing it's right.
