I am finishing up my 292 build and am thinking about a new starter instead of keeping the old starter. Nothing wrong with the old starter except that it's old.
I see on the internet one called Powermaster 9002 which is at or even cheaper than a replacement starter offered by the restoration catalogs.
So I am asking for your opinions.

I've had this since about 2002. It's worked well, daily driven year round, 10s of thousands of miles by now.

Visit the link below on my install - not only is this unit lighter, but it is also much easier to navigate the overall length when installing/uninstalling. With the location of the frame and the use of the bendix action on the original Ford starter (I know, I know, I love the nostalgic sound too), that original starter can be a bear to remove on a 55/56 Ford passenger car.

I have read one thing concerning the use of a push at the ring rear rather than pull at the ring gear and that is the weld on the gear to its parent metal. The weld is on the opposite side. I read the remedy is to weld three spots equidistant on the gear thru the starter hole... Just a thought.

This has a pinion support the RobbMc does not?

All these are only for 56 and newer or converted to 12V.
I'm not in need of anything yet but are there any aftermarket style starters for 6V vehicles?

FYI My 55 TBird still has it's original 6 volt starter. I had it rebuilt locally. The person who rebuilt it for me told me the six volt starter would work with 12 volts. It's been two years since then and it's still working.

Back in July 2017, I installed a Power Master 9002 that was purchased from Jegs for $192.99.
Had to shim it but have had no problems at all .

He has a 6 volt system, therefore a 12 volt starter will not work.
