368 rear seal

what are people using for a rear seal in a 368.i wouldnt use the rope you see in most kits today.

Best gaskets has a good rope seal.. I have had good luck with them

I use Best in the engines that have a rope unless I can find an original asbestos at a swap meet. I make them so packed tight with no rods in you can barely turn it over. I soak it in assembly lube. By the time I’m ready to start up a starter does it fine.
A PCV system helps with leaks. My racing engine uses a vacuum pump..

whats with those two brass plugs by the cam that go into the lifter galley.what is their purpose.

I’m guessing for casting the block. I take them all out and use bottle and rifle brushes to clean them all out when I’m doing any engines. For crank and the feed holes to the crank I use the rifle cleaner brushes.
As for the NOS rope seals, I’ll use any brand engine seal when I find it. At swap meets I search out Olds, Pontiac, Packard, Studebaker, Cadillac, etc rope seals as any will work and I’ve never found one too short for the GMC 6’s I use them for.

they are special plugs with another plug in the centre that slides.i never saw anything like this before.
