Recently I replaced the electric fan motor on my 56 Customline and because it was mounted in a shroud and hard to get to, I just decided to pull the radiator and flush the entire cooling system. When that process is done, you are left with straight water in the block unless you drain that too which I didn't do. The shop manual says the capacity of a 292 is 19 quarts, but I think the radiator core holds only about 10, so then the block holds about 9? It's a little confusing to me when adding the fresh anti-freeze and trying to get the correct 50/50 mix.

If your numbers are correct and you top it off with undiluted antifreeze you should be close enough for government work to a 50 50 mix. It ain't rocket sience. Check the anifreeze too see how low it is protected to when you are done.

Just drain the block
Drains on both sides

Definitely drain the block as the water, either city or well, may have chemicals in it that can damage a cooling system over time. Use a pre-mix 50/50 quality coolant. If you have to add, use the mix or distilled water only.

Buying a 50/50 coolant mix is an expensive way to buy water.

Yes it is, but you know the water is clean. No guessing of mixture ratio. No more garden hose.
It is a known fact in current tech.
