Just a quick one do we use sealent on the intake manifold gasket or just use the gasket no sealent thanks

Lots of opinions on this. The Y-Block intake gaskets are held in position by the studs on the heads, They don't tend to move around as much as on other Ford engines. I have read that many people do not use sealant on these gaskets. I am old school and always use sealant whenever a water passage is involved. I don't use much. A very light coat is enough to satisfy me. I'm not trying to glue the gaskets in place, just prevent any leaks. Make sure you have the right gaskets for your heads. 57 and up heads have bigger intake ports. It's hard to screw up a YBlock intake install. Not so hard on a 289.....

Ted and I changed three sets of heads, and at least 9 intake manifolds on those three sets of heads with one intake gasket set. I use the Fel Pro, and we put white lithium grease on both sides of the gasket, and we actually lost count of how many times it was re-used on dyno testing with my 303Y for EMC. I became a believer in using the white lithium grease. Joe-JDC

I always use a sealant around the water passages, nothing anywhere else.

I'm a Permatex #2 guy around water and fuel since my father started me on it in 1958. Hard to stop something that has always worked.

I hope you guys wear gloves when applying the white lithium grease. It's a known carcinogen.
