I am hoping one of the Thunderbird guys can help me out? I am replacing the lower radiator shield in my 55 TBird. This is the large sheet metal part with the circular hole and cover in the middle that sits in front of the lower radiator support. I assume it's there to direct air into the radiator and to keep rocks out. I have the bumper, horns, grill and lower valance out of the car. In order to replace this part, I need to remove one side of the passenger air vent grill. These are the parts with the screen over the end. I can't get the shield by these vents. I removed the small screws you can see from the inner fender. How to I get at the top screws and replace this part? Thanks.

If any of you TBird guys want to replace your lower radiator shield, buy a case of beer first. This is a real PITA. This part is installed at the factory before the body is mated to the frame. You must remove the radiator, grill, one air duct, bumper, horns and lower valance. You must also loosen and drop the driver's side air duct system. This is necessary to get at the two sheet metal screws that hold the ventilation air intake. Once all this is out, you can slip the radiator shield in place and assemble in reverse order. It's a two day job minimum.
