The Specs posted in the 1957 Shop Manual show Vacuum Advance Specs and Centrifugal Advance Specs. Are these Specs doubled at the Crankshaft or are these Specs what should show at the Crank using a Timing light.? I have set my Timing at 10 BTDC initial and when manifold vacuum is applied its showing about 36-38 Advance. Is that what it should be based on the Shop Manual Specs? I am using an actual 1957 Distributor with the Ball Bearing Advance Plate.

Mark, those specs are setting up the distributor on a distributor machine, so the specs are distributor degrees. You are correct, they should be doubled at the crankshaft.

Only the engine RPM is double. The advance is the same on the crank but note it is distributor RPM which is turning at half the speed of the crank. NOTE: it says 6-7 degrees at 600rpm. That is 1200 engine RPM but still 6-7 degrees on the crank.

Are you sure? That would equate to a total advance of nearly 70 degrees when adding the centrifugal, vacuum, and initial advance to it as well.
