I need to move the dipstick from the front cover to the middle of the block (truck pan), does the freeze plug knock in from the outside or knock in from the inside the engine? Is it a straight hole, no steps in the bore?
TIA Brebs

There's no step. Install from the outside.

If going from one unknown to another unknown, it's simply best to mark the dipstick or adjust the tube length during an oil change.

A truck tube and dipstick is available new but for '57-'64 alone, there are 3 or 4 different ones listed in the MPC.  I'm sure '54 to '56 adds more.  And that's only for trucks.  How you know what is currently installed or what will be needed, I don't know.
