Got started on getting these heads posted, hopefully this will help I’m running about 10:1 compression. What head gaskets work the best ?

I prefer the Best Gasket brand of head gaskets.  I simply spray those liberally with WD-40 before installing.  I’ve had recurring issues with water seepage at the lower edges of the Fel-Pro head gaskets.

Thanks Ted, where is a good place to purchase those gaskets?

Andy.  Thanks for the pics of your G head posting work. John Mummert is one source for BEST gaskets.

Did not know that anything was needed on modern head gaskets.
Ted what does the WD-40 do?

Ted what does the WD-40 do?

Coating the Best Gasket head gaskets with WD40 allows the heads to come off more cleanly later.  No sealing issues during running have occurred so I use the WD40 regardless if there are plans to remove the heads later or not.

I experimented with several different coatings before settling on the use of WD40 on the BstGskt head gaskets.  That gasket sealant testing came about as a result of dyno testing a large number of cylinder heads on the 312 dyno mule and the EMC engine entries.  What was happening was the head gaskets tearing or sticking to the machined surfaces upon being removed; this made cleanup difficult prior to using a new pair of head gaskets.  By using the WD40, the head gaskets eliminated that tendency for the used gaskets to stick to the machined surfaces and the additional caveat was that the gaskets could be reused.  For my cylinder head testing and by using WD40 on the gaskets, it’s not unusual to use the same set of head gaskets a half dozen times when making cylinder head changes.

That's good to know, thanks Ted.
