I can't figure out what holds the springs in place. Everything I have found shows no retainer. Something keeps the springs from flopping around. Has anyone played with these?

The hood’s up on my car since the battery tender is on for the winter. Those springs just flop around on mine, and have been since I bought it in 1999. The only thing is they’re greased a little. They center more or less when you lower the hood.

I checked mine and they flop around just like miker described. Never noticed that before.
