Looking to answering some questions on using this carb. Should you use a spacer ? If so what size ? Tune tips. Linkage issuses. Choke recommend. Any other info you might find helpful please.
I have the 57 dizzy and B intake on a stock 292.

At the minimum (IMO) you should have at minimum a 1/4" phenolic spacer to minimize heat transfer to the carb.
By charliemccraney - 6 Years Ago
Yes on the spacer but make sure it is a 4-hole or divided spacer to preserve dual plane functionality.  As tall as you can fit under the hood.  If you have the money, get several different thickness and style spacers to try.

For tuning, there are many books about that and many about Holley carbs in general.  Get one of those if you are new to it.  Otherwise, it's practically the same procedure you would use with any other carb.

i have the same carb on my 292 in 49merc pickup.i had to enlarge main jets to eliminate the bog. also the new hollers have a seal isue with b manifolds. i made a spacer that better seals the newer carbs to b manifold. 1/4 in alum plate ,made templet re the new carb to acomedate a home made gasket that has a complete seal. this plate sits on a plastic spacer(plate goes between carb and plastic spacer) be sere to get clearance on the choke sid as well as throttle side, little work but made a big difference. i use elect choke

Thanks all for your responses. Have read about possible jet charges. Would you have any photo of the spacer and linkage.should the chock be a Manuel , or electric. The setup now is 2V with Manuel , had no issue with that.

If the car already has a choke cable, then you can go with either electric or manual choke.  If no choke cable, then it’s usually easier to go the electric choke route.  The Holley electric chokes work well but if running a 12 volt power wire to the carb, be sure it comes from a source other than the coil.  You don’t need the voltage drop that results from hooking up accessories to the positive side of the coil.

Here’s a picture of a carb and spacer being installed in a ’56 Ford with a standard shift tranny.

Ted What size of carb spacer would be best to use?

I put a 1" spacer under my carb to help alleviate a heat soak issue.

A one inch four hole is the best bang for the buck for most street Y engines.

Best bet for Electric Choke Power is right from Ignition Switch. Also ad an inline Fuse to protect the circuit in case of problem.

I have been looking at carb spacer. I measure the intake holes ( 1.5” ), and carb base Ventura ( 1.5” ) . But looking at spacer they are 1 11/16”. Am I not finding the right spacer or do I not know what I am looking at. The carb. Is a Holley 570 street avenger. Any help with this would be great, as I what to do it right the first time.

Speedway Motors sell a Holley 390 spacer which can be tapered to match the carb.  Another option is to remove the intake and open up the holes.  And the least ideal option is to simply use the larger spacer on the manifold with no modifications.
By charliemccraney - 5 Years Ago
Oh, you can also get used tapered spacers on eBay.  If you're lucky, you can find one with the top and bottom diameters you need.  I think they're some kind of racing surplus.

The ECZ-B intake throttle bore(s) (unmodified) are 1.5". You say your HOLLEY throttle bore(s) are 1.5" also?

The 1957 ECZ-B H4150 carb spacer (B7AZ 9A589-B) is presumably 1/2" tall, phenolic and the throttle bores should be 1.5" to match the OEM intake and carb.

Supposedly the spacer is carried by the USUAL SUSPECTS. You need to ask them to pull one and get the specs as they may be NOS, REPRO or OFF-SHORE.

GOOD QUESTION!!!

By Melly - 5 Years Ago
Yes that might be a good question, but maybe we should have a y-block avenger. I wonder why it is so hard to find a spacer to fit the 57-B manifold with 1.5” for both intake and carb. I knew that they would not be stocked on shelves but not a thing that can be as hard as looking to find the needle in hay stack. But I am still looking.
By charliemccraney - 5 Years Ago
This is about the closest you will find off the shelf.  Open it up to suit your needs.

I think they had a tapered spacer at one point but I'm not finding it.  That allows most modern carbs to be fitted to a small bore manifold so the carb end hole willl be much bigger than needed but it should work.  Look for yourself, e-mail, or call them about it.

There will also be lot's of options on eBay.  You just have to keep looking.

Another outfit selling spacers & adaptors is "Trans Dapt" performance. They have a large selection of adaptors
N.B,- try www.hedmanperformancegroup.com  for info..
P.S.-  not mentioned in any of the postings is that you need to keep in mind that small hole 4 Bbl gaskets for the ECZ-B intake are needed, or U will have sealing problems due to the intake not having a flat surface..
