I spent the last few days re-doing the mainfold and cooling system on the old 292 in my 62 F-250. I gutted the original Oil Bath Air Cleaner and installed a K&N filter in the original housing. I also installed a Pertronix ignition and new plug wires. Then, I replaced the old Autolite 4100 Carb with a 500 CFM Edelbrock (much easier to tune and it doesn't spew gas everywhere!!) Finally, I fabbed up some new steel fuel line to feed the new carb. After the mechanical stuff was complete, I cleaned it all up and added some fresh paint. It aint perfect but it'll do! Here's a before and after shot:

Kudos! The ignition wiring alone made it worth it.

A.J. looks real good. Was that intake on the truck when you got it or did you add it on?? The newer carb. should be a whole lot easier to work on, I've done a few of those changes for some friends of mine usually with 302/351's (Carb.) Their pretty trouble free. Michael

Michael Michael, It already had the 4 bbl intake on it. I thought it might need replacing but once I got it off I found that it was actually in pretty good shape. The only issue with replacing the carb was that I needed a spacer since the new Edelbrock carb has 1 11/16" bores and the manifold bores were designed for the old Autolite carb with 1 7/16" bores. It was an easy remedy but unfortunately, I didn't know that until I tried to install the new one! I know the Edelbrock isn't "authentic" FoMoCo and that silver finish shines a bit much, but it sure is easy to tune and maintain.

Very nice!! Really like the matching color on the cleaner and covers. Did you pull the engine or just use a hose and degreaser? It looks like the heads have been painted. I have thought about cleaning mine but I'm afraid if I remove all the dirt, oil and grease that itmight fall apart.

Your engine detailing looks great! Does it have a front or rear sump oil pan? I know that all trucks supposedly have rear sumps. However I removed a 292 from a 63 or 64 F-100 recently, which had a front sump. Another Slick owner on FTE also has a front sump. Just curious. If you want to get rid of your Autolite carb send me a private message. Mike

As far as I know, the front sumps were used on the 50s cars to clear the steering linkage. As for the old Autolite carburetor, I already sold it on Ebay. I love getting money for junk parts!!

Hose, Bucket, Degreaser, an assortment of brushes and a bunch of plastic tarps...I don't like pulling engines!!
