I have a 58 F-100 with a 292 and I have 2 good distributors that I am wanting to upgrade to electronic but I want to make sure that I am using the most reliable distributors first. Currently I have the pre 57 Ford Load o Matics (I think that is what they are called) that has the springs visible with the cap removed. I just rebuilt one with new points and condenser and it will work for now until I get everything else done. What distributors should I be looking for for upgrades? I am rewiring the entire truck due to the previous owners hacking the crap out of the wiring. Black wires to positives and reds to grounds and wrong gauges. It was bad. The plan is to use the Accel 2020 upgrade kit. I know petronix is a go to system on these but I run Accel on everything and trust it. I am also looking at the TSP distributors. Has anyone ran them and do they last or are they just Chinese junk?

57 up distributor will work The newest version of Pertronics appears to be working pretty well. They have been good but had some early failures on the older units. TSP is a new one on me. Do they offer a Y-Block unit with HEI conversion? Price is definitely better if the distributor is good.

The load-o-matic will not work with the '58 engine. Wrong carburetor for the distributor.
TSP is yet another iteration of the Chinese MSD copy. I don't recall any complaints about them. My concern is consumable parts availability. If they can be had, then there is no issue but if the distributor has to be replaced every time, then they wouldn't have much, if any more value than using MSD to begin with.

What kind of carb is on the '58 engine? The Load 0 matic will work with a carburetor to match it, such as the three-bolt Holley with the vacuum fitting in the rear. It might not be the best option, but it was sufficient for the day. If the '58 engine had the distributor changed on it, maybe the carb was changed too.
