My 1955 292 valley cover uses the rear down draft tube.  It has a large flat oil baffle plate about mid way inside of the cover.  One side of the baffle is broken off.  I plan to use the down tube. Do I need this baffle or can I remove it?

That baffle redirects drawn air from the oil filler cap from the lifter valley into the cylinder heads for more complete crankcase venting purposes.

I never would have thought of that.  Thanks!

If You have that Valley Cover with Baffle You might consider doing away with the Tube and install PCV System using the Hole where the Tube was. Those Covers are the Ones others are looking for in order to install PCV System. Regular Passenger Cars don't have the Baffle.

That's the cover I used. The teapot fitting used with the later pcv systems fits perfectly.

Can you please post a photo of the PVC fitting you are talking about?  I am running a 1957 Ford Iron 4V manifold with a Holley carb.  Where do the PVC connections go?

This is what I'm using. It's the round part with the tube sticking out.

I can't post a Picture because the Car was sold. Where the Road Draft Tube goes on the Valley Cover is replaced by a Grommet and PCV Valve. Run the Hose to the Carb. Is there a bigger plugged fitting on the Holley which is where the Hose goes.? Most of the newer Holley Carbs have a hookup for PCV. If not You can buy a Spacer Plate with PCV Hookup or drill and Tap for a Fitting as close to Center of Manifold. as possible. The One shown in the previous Posting is from an early 60's Y-Block. I cant remember the size of the Grommet but someone else will probably Post more Info. The Valve itself is one of several. Someone will post that Info also.
Its been several Years since I did mine and I don't recall the Parts I used.

The forward baffle is the one being discussed, correct?

The rear baffle is a splash guard for either the road draft tube (BIRD - 57 FORD 8V - Or S/C) or the later 292 PCV System

The Initial Question was about the Front Baffle. I just thought is was a good place to make a Suggestion about the PCV. The correct T-Bird Valley cover is the hardest Item to find when U want to install PCV and He already has the Pan.

I just wanted to make sure I was on the same page.

OLD GUY stuff you know ...

I'm not sure what sized grommet I used with my adapter. I found an old brake cylinder boot that fit and trimmed it the thickness I needed. The pcv valve I used was an AC CV723C. It's one that you attaach a hose on both ends. It's used on 1968 -1970 GM 250 6 CYL

You must have used the CASCO Kit PCV - Valve and Grommet _2 - CASCO 6758A

That's what I was looking for.  Thanks.   Is there any performance advantage to replacing the down draft tube with a PVC?

No performance advantage either way.  The PCV valve does allow for a cleaner and less leak prone engine.  Potential oil drips from the road draft tube are eliminated while the PCV valve itself does permit excess crankcase pressure to be relieved by lieu of a negative pressure on the crankcase (vacuum) thus taking some of the load off of both the front and rear crankshaft seals.

When I purchased my boat anchor 312, it had a pcv installed in it.   My valley cover from my 292 had the old pcv system that ran around to the intake manifold in front of the carb.   I re-used the steel line to the front,  eliminated the old pcv in the front, and used the new valley cover with the pcv installed.  I believe the grommet and pcv are from a 300-6 valve cover.http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/84e4badc-d914-46ec-bace-83ed.jpg

That is something Someone has fabricated. Looks like a nice Job. Too bad Someone is not making these and selling. The T-Bird Ones are getting harder to find..
