Interior door cards

Hi all,

We’ve had new interior door cards made for the Parklane. We are now trying to install the door and window handles. The door handles won’t be a problem, but there is trouble with the window cranks. With the swooping arm rests, the door card material and the material backing it, it seems near impossible to get the window crank to fit with all of this stuff behind it. If we succeed, I am worried we either won’t be able to ever get the crank off again, or there will be no room for it to turn freely.

Anyone have and solve this problem? Are there window handles with a longer shank that would make fitting these things easier?

The suppliers for fifties trucks have longer shafts for the regulator, as well as the door handle.  I got some from Midfifties for my 56 F100, but not in their online catalog anymore.  Sacrament Viintage Ford still shows them though  http://www.vintageford.com/part_search.cfm?line=1948-66%20Pickup&PartEntry=8550&Category=     Easy enough install, drill 4 rivets, replace the shaft and screw it back together.  I don't know what differences there are between cars and trucks, but I suspect not much.

Thanks dbird

Probably a dumb question, but does the window regulator need to be out of the door in order to do this swap?

Yes, it means disassembling things that weren't meant to be disassembled.  Removing and reinstalling the regulator isn't  that bad, just the roller is a PITA.
