My Father purchased a 55 Crown new it had the tri post mirrors on fenders. But when I look at 55 pic I do not see this style mirrors on them. Even looked at old pic when he bought it and they were on it. They are a yankee 40100 mirror. Anyone know of these mirrors. Maybe dealer ad on?...

They are "Aftermarket" non Ford Mirrors.If they were on the Car from new they would have been put on by the Dealer.

Side mirrors were not included in the price of new Fords in 55 or even later. Our new Sunliner was delivered with a left side mirror just a head of the wind wing on the door. I'm sure dad paid extra for it. It was delivered in Inglewood, Ca, Our 56 Victoria was delivered in Balsom Lake Wi. and had the mirror in the exact same spot the next year. There could have been a template for the location in the box, I have no idea. My current 56 has it in the same place and is a repo mirror, however I have had every thing apart and there are no witness welds for filled holes on either fender or either door. My right side has never had a mirror.
If you look closely at the 56 ads for the Ford Motor company there were usually no antennas or mirrors on any of the vehicles displayed. I was told they did not want anything "cluttering" up the cars as depicted but who knows

I have seen Mirrors mounted on Fender ahead of the Door and on the Door itself. I have one of each locations on my 2 '56's. The Ones on the Fender are much more useful. Where were they supposed to be mounted originally or was it a matter of customer preference? Anyone know?

I bought a new 56 Sunliner from a Ford dealer in Lancaster NYS that had the Yankee mirrors on both front fenders. Now I don't know if the dealer installed the mirrors or Ford.

I'm sure that there was a template for mirror locations but I've never found one. Even thought the Crown Victoria Association would have one but no luck there so far. I mounted my 56 Ford repo mirrors on the door. The only difficult thing was finding a location that I could see while driving that didn't interfere with the vent window opening. There is a spot! For whatever reason I never liked the mirrors out on the front fenders.

Moon... I agree with you. The door mount just looks cleaner too me. I know it sounds a little anal but when I was looking for a 56 to buy 7 yrs ago the deal breaker would have been a rear mount antenna and fender mirrors. I was lucky on both. If everything was perfect and if it had a continental kit I would have bought it anyway because I could remove it. Spot light mirrors were a defiantely "not even consider".
We are all different with different tastes which makes being a car guy/gear head so much fun. Its great to see and compliment another owner even thou you might not want to personally own his car.

Said as a true old car guy. I see things all the time that make me stop and look. I may not do it but it is interesting to see. Somethings I actually do follow up on. No two of us is alike and that is the good part.

I have always thought the 56 Victoria looked great with all the windows down and the vent windows cranked open half way. Putting the mirrors near or in front of the vent windows seemed to clutter the vent windows open halfway look. When I was a kid, a neighbor had a pink and white club sedan that had the Ford dual mirrors at midpoint forward on the fenders that gave it the speed boat look.. He put the car to pasture (1966) in his back yard when it could no longer pass Pennsylvania state inspection because of rust out caused by road salt. We used to play in it when no one was looking. Man, cars used to have character and I miss it. I bought a 56 Victoria model at at Sears Roebuck and painted it pink and white with dreams of buying and fixing up that club sedan when I was old enough.As it ended up, soon afterward another neighbor bought the club sedan for 20 bucks and transplanted the Thunderbird V/8 in to his plain Jane 59 Custom with the 3 birds on the quarter panels . He quickly found out that the hood would not shut completely over the Tee Pot carb, Solution was to run it without the air cleaner on it. The club sedan body was hauled away by a 53 scruby wrecker to be turned into a Toyota : Fairlane trim, inside door stainless and front seat included. Memories

Every body has their own tastes and should do up their car the way they want. As for me, the fender mounted mirrors looked like crap sticking way out there..

I could never see why some people put them out there on the fenders. I know it was popular in the 50's but how could you see anything in them that far away?

One of my '56's has them on the Fender and One has them on the Door. The Ones on the Fender are much more useful than the Ones on the Door. To use the Ones on the Door I find I have to lean back even though the Seat is fully back to see out of them. I agree they look better mounted on the Door and I won't ever relocate them but not as useful as Fender Mount.

Ford did supply a template for the mirror and antenna. The Mirror template was on the door by the vent window and the antenna was on the left front fender. They were shipped with those items in the car so they would not get damaged during transport. The template for the antenna is in the electrical manual.

cokefirst, are you sure on the antenna. Both our new ones had it on the right front fender. The one I bought had no hole in the fender but the grommet was on the side on the inner body panel for the cable to go thru. I couldn't bear to drill the hole so I mounted my antenna under the passenger door but still used the grommet for the cable.
Ford may not have installed them for many reasons but one could have been for the customers who wanted them on the back.

Sorry, you are correct. The antenna is mounted on the right fender not left. I would think by now I would have my left and right figured out. Thanks for catching my error.
