http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/fd86533d-0c5c-4102-baf0-4193.jpgI am looking at this 1956 Sunliner with serious interest in buying it. Full frame off Resto in the 90's but still in great Condition. It has Power Windows and Power Seat. I know the Power Windows are not seen as often as Manual Windows but what about the Power Seat? That would be even rarer than the Power Windows I think? More common in the pricier Mercury Line? It has Power Steering but surprisingly Manual Brakes which I can fix up myself.    Original Fiesta Red Exterior and Black Interior. 21,986 Miles since full Body off Restoration in 1995. Including Engine and Transmission rebuild.  ** I hit the ? instead of the "5" in the heading for this Post.**

It was a fairly common high-end option-

Fords I had 5 or 6 55 56 Fords including a 55 Sunliner , never had bower brakes on any of them , never felt I needed them.
A power seat is a sort of rare option I've seen a few.
If you don't mind me asking what kind of money are they asking for the 56 Sunliner your looking at?
By oldcarmark - 6 Years Ago
Lou, its in Canada. $50,000 CDN which is inline with Prices I have seen on similar Ones listed in US. May even be a little less when You take into Account Exchange at 20+%. There's cheaper Ones and many at higher Prices but I think this is a real nice car for the Money that I want to stay within. My Dad passed away last Month and left Me some Money. I never thought I would be able to consider buying a Sunliner but I am now going to spend some of my Kids Inheritance on a Car I have always wanted. I will be selling my 4 Door once I get it out of Storage later this Month..

Power seat and windows would be rare on a '56. Cousin had one back in the day that had factory air and probably power steering and brakes but I don't think it had a power seat.

I don't know how rare power seats  are in sedans, but every 55 Tbird had power seats.  They were an option in 56 and 57 plus the 57's had the dial-a-matic (memory)

I have looked at literally Dozens of Listings on the Internet while researching 56 Sunliners and have seen a couple that List power Windows but I don't recall seeing One with Power Seats. Interesting that they were standard on 55 T-Birds and then became an Option in 56 and 57.

You might want to look into this car on ebay.

I enquired about that One before it was listed on Ebay. The current Owner bought it as it is now and did some Work on it.It has been sitting where it is now for over 14 Months. Outside. He never did get it on the Road. Its a good deal for someone who can pick it up where it is. Not worth the aggravation and Expense of getting it shipped to Me in Canada. Right off the bat the exchange rate is 25% more in C$. I imported the One I have now about 10 Years ago from Florida and it ended up not being worth what it cost Me in the end. Better for Me to find One already in Country if at all possible..

Sounds like a nice car. I'm curious about the power seat. I've got a '54 Merc ragtop with a 4-way power seat (up-down, foward-back). Is the seat in the '56 a 2-way or 4-way?
By oldcarmark - 6 Years Ago
Its supposed to be a 4 way like yours. Have You found yours to be dependable or have You had to do any repairs etc? I am sure You don't move Yours much if You are the only Driver. Just curious as I have no Experience at all with these.

I cleaned every thing up and lubricated  everything when I had it reupholstered, never had a problem..

It's dependable now, but it wasn't operable for the first 20 years I owned it. It was rebuilt when I did a mechanical restoration of the car with a mechanic. We replaced one of the motors and some of the wiring. I do get a little movement of the seat back and forth on the passenger side when stopping.

I have a 55 fairlane victoria with power windows and a four way power seat. They must be fairly rare because I had a hard time finding a replacement seat switch.
By oldcarmark - 6 Years Ago
Very nice 55! The Power Seat Switches are available now ( Repro) from Macs Antique Auto.. 54-55. Interestingly they don't have them for 56 Ford.
By Barnabasmc - 6 Years Ago
Thanks. The only one I found at Macs looked like the window switch. The one on mine was a toggle switch. I recently found a toggle for a 58 from macs that I think I can wire up and make work. I ordered it but I am waiting for it to arrive. I found one last year on ebay off a 55 tbird but it quit working after a few months. I got it working long enough to get the seat where I wanted it.

.http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/203ee220-9255-402b-b206-939b.jpgI think You are correct. It appears there is a mistake in their Part #. Should be B5AZ-14A701- B. Their Part # is B5AZ-14A701-A. NPD has the same Item as Macs identified as a Power Seat Switch also. There is a NOS correct Switch on Ebay. Item # 311536647070. VERY Pricey though. That's the One pictured. Supposed to be NOS with Box.

I’ve been watching that one on ebay for two years waiting for the price to come down.Scared to spend that much and it not work!
By charliemccraney - 6 Years Ago
Don't wait too long if you really need it.  If you've been waiting 2 years, then no other has shown up at a better price.  When it's gone, it's gone.  In general, things like this do not come down in price and waiting for a better price is often more expensive.

Good advice I just might go for it.

I may have the 4 way seat switch along with the bezel and nut.  Wait another day or two before you spend $450.00 for the ebay one.  Mine is used but works.  Will check on it and post again when I make sure it still works.  Ben Hess

One other Source You might check is Green Sales Company. Huge Business dealing in Obsolete Ford Parts. Check their Website for Phone #. I checked the 3 Part #'s that could be used for this Switch. Shows out of Stock but its worth a Phone call as it may not be up to Date.
