This may be a very dumb question, but originally on dual carbed cars, were that carbs linked direct or progressive in
operation?
Thanks

As I know it they were linked. After doing an extensive test ith compressed air and taping ports I felt they could run progressive using the rear as a lead. I have been running mine that way for over 3 years..

Kahuna, the factory setup used direct linkage.  T-Birds had the carbs mounted backward to clear the hood scoop opening, so they used a crossover bellcrank, but the carbs still operated in unison.

They were definately hooked up direct. Not sure how they would work if set up progressively because of the design of the intake manifold.

They were done both ways by Ford. '56 and '57 factory set ups were direct (both carbs open together). In the 60's tri power and dual quads were progressive on Fords.

GM did progressive on dual quads (like 409 scruby and Buick nail heads).
