Hi I just recently got hold of a Y BLOCK  I know more about FE and small blocks. This is my first Y block just wanted to know how to id my block.
My engine has 3 bolts in the valve cover. one on each end and one in the middle and has a factory 4v. As stated before I don,t that much about these engines. Just couldn't pass on the deal less than $50.00 and it still runs

No Y-block uses a 3 bolt valve cover.  Do you have pictures of the engine?

can have one tomorrow. what other ford engine has dist. like scruberolet in back of block. could this be a lincoln block came out of a truck

Lincoln uses two bolts as well.  No Ford V8 engine I'm aware of uses 3 bolt valve covers.

Only thing comes to mind with 3 bolt valve covers is a scruby 4.3L V6 but I doubt it's one of these.

How about a pic?

Could the middle bolt be some kind of ‘jerry-rigged’ aftermarket rocker assembly oilers? Have you removed a cover yet to inspect the valve gear?

If my name was "Jerry" I would take exception. I always thought it was "Jury Rigged", Around here thats more likely.

I cannot think of anything that has 3 bolt valve covers, looking forward to a picture

The terms seem interchangeable, though (according to my dictionary) ‘jerry-built’ came first. We are the product of our early environment. I’ll bet (like me) you used to think Porsche was a one syllable word?

Here I think I found it!

Are you sure it's a Ford?    The old Dodge hemi's in the trucks used 3 big screws in the center to hold the covers over the plug wires.
By 56_Fairlane - 7 Years Ago
If it's a running Hemi, then $50 was a screaming deal.

sounds like it might be an old Chrysler Poly motor, 318 (US) or 313 (CDN)
By charliemccraney - 7 Years Ago
That is probably it.  That's a cool motor to get, in running condition, for $50.

So where are the photos? I'm beginning to be a bit skeptical that there even is an engine.

Probably just revving us up.

Next someone will claim they have a Y block with the distributor at the front.🙀🤥
