Has anybody installed a Bendtsen adapter in a 1956 Ford car. Checking for clearance of adapter to firewall and bell housing to firewall and floor. Thanks

Years ago and its still working quite well. The adapter is great and clearance is no problem. The only thing is you may have to grind a little inside the bell housing for the starter drive to clear. I am very happy with the AOD. I used the shift lever adapter available at Speedway etc. and a linkage rod kit. The column shifter works very well but the dial on the dash is a little off. In my kit the adapter for the end of the crankshaft was a bit too tight and needed a little machine work. Their kit uses the high torque starts only. I've had some experience with them getting damp but I park outside and it could be condensation.

Moon, you obviously changed the pedal and got rid of all the monkey motion. What did you do for throttle pressure or does the AOD need an extra arm/cable down from the carb. Does a AOD need vacuum too? If you could take some photos of the top and possibly underneath I would appreciate it. Adding an AOD is the one thing I really like to do to my 56. The top indicator is not of a major concern like you said...Some one said which was the best year too but I do not remember that either...... Thanks

I used a Lokar black floor mount pedal. It uses a cable to the throttle. And an adapter that bolts to the rear side of the carb that the TV cable attaches to. In order to set the cable correctly you will need a pressure gauge attached to the transmission. There are videos on line for this. Do not drive the AOD until adjustment is made or confirmed. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Lokar-XFMG-6098-Billet-Aluminum-Eliminator-Floor-Mount-Throttle-Pedal,64519.html?sku=49106098&utm_medium=CSEGoogle&utm_source=CSE&utm_campaign=CSEGOOGLE&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgIPOBRDnARIsAHA1X3TY3nsKb6pyJrs1BQiOcxQNgUEfNcgySS74CL_moRsHPi-AnMtVnx4aAhwEEALw_wcB

The best years for the AOD swap are 89-93. There are several models from diesel to big block so make sure the one you buy is for your application.
