Haven't worked on my 56 292 for a while, it's been running very well. The past few times I've started it up, however, it dies suddenly (no sputtering or anything) after idling smoothly at about 600 RPM for a couple minutes. It starts right back up without even touching the accelerator. Runs about a minute and dies again. Started it back up again and ran it about 2000 RPM for a minute. Just sat there and hummed without a single miss as far as I could tell. The engine is stock with a "teapot" carburetor and 56 distributor with points. Anyone have any ideas?

Just when you first start it up from sitting a while, like overnight? All my cars do the same thing if I don't set the choke and it hasn't been started in a day or more..

Check the fuel filter see if it's clogged

No - it does this after it's warmed up as well.
Haven't changed the fuel filter in a while. Seems like there would be a problem at high RPM as well though. I should probably check the fuel pressure.
Strangely, though, it will start right back up after dying without even touching the accelerator pedal. So it would seem there is no problem with fuel starvation.

Could be a worn throttle shaft "settleing in" and closing the butterflys, set the idle speed higher, and see what happens.
