I have a single sheave dampner pulley on the motor in our Ranch Wagon, but had an OEM accessory pulley in one of my parts boxes. Since we plan on adding AC to the car and I now have the radiator out of the car, I bolted that pulley on yesterday. Everything fit correctly, but there is a 1/2" space between the accessory pulley and the dampner pulley. So other than making custom spacers for the AC compressor, are there any advantages/disadvantages in using an accessory pulley over a double sheave dampner pulley? I really don't want to spend the $100+ to buy a double sheave dampner pulley.
Thanks,
Rono

Doe's the add on work for a dual V belt damper pulley? That would take up the gap.

That's a good question. It just might take up the gap. So what you are saying is that that accessory pulley is designed to be used with a double sheave crank pulley to give you a triple sheave pulley and the way this pulley is sitting now it is in the location of where a 3rd pulley would be. That makes sense. I guess I just have to decide whether I want to make up long or short spacers and if I want to spend the money on a double sheave pulley or not.

I have one on my car and yes they did line up. Spacers would also be an option. I think the AC cars ran two belts to it. There is a NOS dual V damper on EBAY quite often. I don't see his ad tonight though. He usually posts at $240 but I bought one from him last year for $180. Watch for his ad and make an offer. Considering rebuild costs etc. I thought $180 was a fair price.

Thanks Chuck! There is an aftermarket one (made in Mexico I think) on Ebay for $99, but I would trust it. I'll wait until an OEM double sheave shows up.

Greetings to all: I too have often wondered if all the OEM add on pulleys are not created equal. In the parts text catalog for my 64 F100 it states in the description: 3 5/16 overall length. It would be interesting to know how these pulleys are described in parts catalog pertaining to passenger cars? Thanks, JEFF....................................
