Must have been a drag to be within 3 hp of 600 and not get it. Congrats, Don

Official results are not yet posted. Hot Rod aren't reporting on it as much as they did last year.

Hope it's not the kickass Yblocks holding them back as it did in bygone years!

A big congratulation goes out to Ted, John, Geoff and Royce for keeping the dream alive! I am thinking the small block Ford is a Windsor with Cleveland heads. They will have to give the LS it's own class next year so they don't have to compete with Ford so they can win.

Congrats Ted, and the gang. Vic you could be correct, there was not a lot of detail on the Hot Rod website, when I read it

Kudos Ted.
I will be looking for the HOT Rod Magazine Issue that covers the event.

Thanks for the kudos guys. Being the second engine to run in the class, it left the remaining competitors a target to shoot for and knowing how many points they needed in which to beat the 2785 points my engine put up on the board. My score did manage to hold up to the end for a first place finish.
I actually made 603.2 HP on the last pull but didn’t use that sheet for the scoring. I’m in the process of contacting the right people on the HR website to get that peak HP number corrected. Here’s the sheet of the last pull made which did exceed the 600 HP number at 6500 rpms. A good HP number on that pull but score suffered due to trading torque for horsepower.

Great, Ted did you flow the heads? if so can you give us a hint?

Did you make any changes to get the higher numbers? I.E. jets, timing etc. or were you happy and just made back to back pulls withjout changes?

Great, Ted did you flow the heads? if so can you give us a hint? Flow numbers will tend to vary from one flow bench to another so the numbers may not be applicable when comparing heads tested on different flow benches. With that being said, this year’s 2016 EMC Y heads are flowing in the neighborhood of 290/275 at 0.650” on the intakes and 186/194 at the same lift on the exhausts. Not bad at all for small valved heads.

Did you make any changes to get the higher numbers? I.E. jets, timing etc. or were you happy and just made back to back pulls withjout changes? Team Eaton made a total of 10 pulls in a 35 minute span. Optimum ignition timing was figured out at the shop and was simply verified upon cranking the engine up on the UNOH dyno. There were jet changes made during the 35 minute time period and one of those jet changes was made addressing a lean condition that ultimately was the result of a linkage problem with the sideways mounted Holleys. Changing eight jets instead of four does take some coordination to do it in record time. To their credit, this was discussed and rehearsed in detail prior to putting the engine on the dyno. The team members proved their worth in how easy they made the jet changes look. The highest horsepower pull did come at run #10 but that particular pull had a lower score than three of the other pulls that was used for scoring. The peak numbers were not as important as having a broad range of simply good numbers in which to average. In essence, we were trading HP numbers for TQ numbers to up the score.
