Please see the enclosed picture. Is this the wiper motor? And how does the wiper knob actually work?. I cannot pull the knop at all. Only turn.

It is a vacuum wiper motor, there is no speed control, the knob is for turning it on or off.

It doesn't pullout. The further you turn it the faster the wipers go if the vacuum motor is working properly.

Thanks. In that case I have a problem. Is it lack of vacuum or is it a broken wiper motor?. Any way to test it?

Another option - probably not the best option - but an option. Is regular application of Rain-X or a similar product.

Snow Cone is right. Nothing like an electric wiper. I would suggest you do a conversion. Standard of the industry.

If you have an old automotive shop, the kind that has equipment from the 1970's their distributer machines have a vacuum pump that you could test it with, but probably if it isnt working it's gunna be a bad pump.
As for going electric, didnt y-blocks have a vacuum pump/fuel pump? I'd just get a rebuilt unit and one of those since i hate updating things that dont need to be. Hell most of these cars never even get the wipers turned on and only get driven in perfect weather. Mine has an electric, but only because it was on it from the factory.

You are absolutely right. Going electricity is the last option however stable that is. I feel it shoud be original, but can and has been persuaded by necessity to go 'modern'. I often prefer good weather driving, but you can get caught by rain. Any reseller of an reconditioned unit?

Some oil fixed the issue . Wipers now working like a charm.
Solution:
and then just a matter of working the wiper arms manually.
