I have a 56' Ford Victoria with the 292. I am lost and could use some help. All of the lights on the car work (even the dome light), but the instrument lights do not. I bought a new headlight switch and circuit breaker assembly and was going to put it in, but I am having a heck of a time removing the old one (that's if I even need to). Can anyone help with a trick that would remove that switch? When it comes to electrical, I suck, plus I'm 70 and forget what I am doing sometimes. Thank you.

It's real common for the resistor for the instrument lights to fail, then no lights or only bright.
Should be a button on top of the switch, you push that and it releases the shaft the knobs on. Pull it out, remove the bezel and the sw comes out. Disconnect the battery of course. Kind of got to feel around for it blind, but the new sw should have one. If is an OEM replacement it doesn't have the shaft, so what the button does isn't obvious.

Thanks Miker. I'll give that a try. I was pushing inwards towards the back of the instrument panel. Didn't do the button thingie. I do have only bright lights (sometimes) once in a blue moon the low beams will work. Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Hi again Miker. I found the button and pushed it in, but it won't release. Do I have to turn the unit itself or just pull on it? Sorry for the bother.

It's been years, and I don't remember the particulars. Specifically, whether the button is pushed when the sw is on or off. Probably just have to fiddle a bit, see it you can feel it try to move. I know that's a pita under there. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I think you push the button with the switch knob pushed in then pull it out holding the button in. There is a fuse on top of the headlight switch too.

If you have high beams and not low, then more than the switch is bad. Check/replace the dimmer switch. The dash light problem is probably the switch.
