I scored a Mallory Hyfire 6a as part of a transmission buy. it's new in box, never installed and I was thinking about installing it on the Thunderbird. The 292 is mostly stock except for Mummert intake, Holley 450, Sanderson headers, Mallory Unilite distributor and Mallory coil. Stock type plug wires that are only a few thousand miles old.
Anyway, any thoughts on whether it's worth installing? Online searches make me think it might be just one more thing to go wrong , but it might be an improvement also. I figure I'll have to change plug wires again, but anything else?

For practically free, yes, it's worth installing.
Since the Unilite is standalone, if something does go wrong with the box, you simply unhook it and let the distributor do everything as it is doing right now.
As to what else you will need, maybe coil, maybe plug wires, read the instructions.

CDI system fries stock style i-core coil sooner or later. It needs proper coil. If distributor-style conventional ignition is not enough, then CDI is next step up. CDI is good up to 8000 RPM then it starts to loose power. It has strong but really short spark.
