Concerning the NHRA regulations, does the capacity matter?

Charlie,

I don't believe so. I currently run a Moon catch can, but when I ran my Model A and it would not pass tech due to the lack of a catch can, we attached an empty "tall boy" beer can to the rad, via a gear clamp. It passed tech and contunued to do so for several years after at many different tracks. I left it there as my good luck charm, seemed to work too! Wink

Yes, the NHRA 2008 rulebook specifies 1 pt. (16 oz) minimum.

I use a 1 qt plastic oil bottle, tie wrap it to the radiator support and then run a length of rubber hose from the neck to inside the bottle.  I use a black bottle to blend in with the rad support.

Regards,

Dennis

Alright, thanks. I have my eye on a pint sized catch can.

I have a 16 oz laundry fabric softener bottle mounted upside down with a hole in what is now the top for the overflow hose.  I can unscrew the cap to drain the bottle without removing it from its mount.

I used the original(repo) "See-Clear" windsheild washer bag!  It look like it should be there and works perfect.  Sure looks better than any plastic bottle. You can get repos cheap too. I had to remove the check ball in the bag cap, run a hose to the overflow at the rad. cap, and put a low pressure cap on the radiator

Charlie,

most of the parts stores have "Kits" fo $10 or $15. paint the bottle/can black like dennis said, pisses the techs off when they can't find it!

I went with a 28oz Meziere Recirculating tank.  Now I just have to find a radiator cap that will allow me to use the recirculating function.  Do y'all think this will pass tech?  Will they want hose clamps?

I also put a 1" longer spacer on the fan.  I'm hoping it will alleviate an idle temperature creep-up condtion since I will not have any time to try to fix those sorts of problems before Columbus.

Charlie,

The catch can's good. Don't get the fan too close to the rad, the engine can move forward on the mounts some.

Excellent.  One step closer.  The fan's still an inch or 2 away frome the radiator.  I think it said in the instructions to make sure there is at least 1/2" of clearance.
