Hi, new to y blocks  and just wanted someone to help me identify bits and pieces on my 272.

I just bought a 56 f100 with a 272 Y block, and I'm trying to get it running better and put all the hoses where they are suppose to be.
Here is a bit of a list

-there is a hose that runs from front to back on intake manifold?
-the road draft tube has been capped and teed into the oil filler hose line, then goes nowhere, whats going on there?
there are a few photos attached, so have a look

Also im installing a firewall mount brake booster and i need a vacuum line, there isn't anything on the carby, do i just tap into the intake manifold?

Sorry, but I'm as green as it gets with Y blocks, most engines too.

That hose in the picture is open ended and looks like it may have been hooked up to the water port for maybe a heater.  The picture of the road draft tube shows a PCV valve added to the top of the filter can.  That road draft tube will need to go and the PCV valve hooked up at the top of the engine to minimize any oil mist from being pulled into the intake tract.  The six sided plug that’s in front of the carburetor is a vacuum port suitable for either a PCV valve or a vacuum booster but not both.  You’ll need to keep the vacuum signal for each of those isolated.  If you stay with the 2V carb, then a spacer can be installed under the carb to obtain an additional vacuum port.

In the second pic it shows #8 plug wire on #5 plug.

Thanks for that info, I'm starting to get my head around it. What about the hose that runs from front to back on the intake manifold? I think one end is disconnecte in the photo?

What is the hose hooked to at the back of the engine?  The open end of the hose in your picture makes it look like it may have been hooked up to the front intake water port.

So, it hooks up to the same looking 90 degree outlet as the front. i figure it was for something that is no longer on the engine.

With that additional picture of the rear of the intake, it’s now apparent that two additional vacuum ports were added to the intake manifold beyond what was originally supplied by Ford.  Those two additional ports appear to use 5/8” heater hose connectors.  At one time, the PCV valve was likely hooked to one of those ports but it’s hard to say what the second port was used for unless it was power brakes or ?
