I'm sure someone here could help if only your post were clearer. My suggestion is you repost with a clearer discription of your issue.

Top dead center on the compression or exhaust stroke?

Are the wires on the distributor set up counter clockwise? That fools a lot of people. I would confirm the wires and firing order are correct. Then, as Charlie said, Make sure you are up on the number one intake. Remember the Y-Block number one is on the passenger side. These are all common problems for a Y. Chuck

it is possible that you are  180* out of time.

You’ll need to be at TDC on the compression stroke.  If the valve covers are off, then both valves on the number one cylinder will have some lash in them and the valves on the #6 cylinder will both be tight when #1 compression stroke is at TDC.  If the valves on the #6 cylinder are both loose when the damper is at TDC and the distributor rotor is pointing to the #1 wire in the cap, then you are potentially off 180°.  As has already been mentioned, be sure the spark plug wires are going in a CCW direction in the cap.
