Oil Filter adapter

Hello , Can someone help me out with the proper orientation of the hole in the adapter plate . I have been told by my "friends" up and down so I do not know which way it should be . The round plate has the word "top" stamped on it but of of my friends said that means out . so I am am bit confused . Thanks for any help

reason to have hole on the top was so oil did not drain back,so starts would have quick build up.But most modern spin ons have a check valve. I rtill 2 more holes in my adaptors so oil to filter is less restricted(space the holes so they ar evenly apart. i get oil presure with in 1 to 2 seconds, even when parked for a week.have a guage and red light,gauge goes up befor light goes out.

Yes! where it says top! dont think your friends are good advice on something so simple.

Seems like the one I have came in a ford parts bag appears to be made in america , the one my friend has is made in china and the word "top" is stamped in and when you put the stamped word "TOP"  on to the hole is on the bottom . That is what is going on.

Very simple, don't trust the Chinese, they know nothing about Fords

I have come across the replacement or offshore adapters that had ‘TOP’ stamped in the wrong location.  As long as the oil holes are placed at the top, you should be good to go.
