Steady Rest

Our Ranch Wagon has the stock steady rest. Since I have to unbolt it from the core support to get to the old cross member which needs to be replaced I'm considering removing it altogether. My 56 Customline doesn't have it and I haven't had any issues without it being there.  So what do you guys think...keep it or not?

I'm not putting it back on my Ranch Wagon. Seems a little overkill to me. What year is your wagon?

It's a 56 "P" Code with the Fordo. It would be a lot easier to work on the front suspension and transmission cooler lines if it wasn't there. I see a ton of them on Epay, so I think a lot of guys are taking them off.

I know a lot of guys take it off and leave it off, but when I replaced the 239 with A 312 in m6y 54 I decided to leave it on for the extra stability .

I had a 56 that I bought without a steady rest, the car had about 70,000 miles on it so the motor mounts were a little worn, one day it was forced to do a panic stop. The engine moved forward  just enough to have the fan tear up the radiator. When I repaired the damage I put a steady rest on the motor.
