I will probably be buying the Reds headers and modifying them for turbos, but for now, while I am putting this thing together, I have another running 292 to stick in the car to get it going. What kind of headers are out there, for a reasonable price, for the Y in a car? I know Patriot makes a decent set, but they only list them for a truck. Will the fenderwell exit Patriots for 53-56 truck work in a `57 Custom without a lot of drama? If it turns into too much of a pain, I may just use the stock dual exhaust manifolds I have on it. This one wont be very mean, maybe an Isky cam, Demon carb, MSD distrib, stuff like that. If I cant find new headers, anybody out there got any used passenger car fenderwell exit headers they want to part with?

Speedway has a set of truck fenderwells listed that look just like the set that I have, the ones that you looked at when you were by the other day. The only other source is Jerry Christinson, his are far superior to Red's, but at $690 a set they should be.

Sanderson in SF makes some I bought a set for 250.00.They didnt work too well. I just bought a great set from FAP. www.Fordpowertrain.com. perfect fit everything bolts up where it is supposed to. John Mummert has a good set. they look like the FAP. A friend of mine has a set on NEW OLD STOCK HEDMAN headers for the Y Block. I can give you his e-mail address. e-mail me at eadgpdhome@msn.com . I modified cheap Chevy (soorryyy) headers to Y. Im not quite happy to outcome, but maybe they work.
Y-Block + '59 body + AOD is quite impossible combination to factorymade headers.

James: Jerry Christenson's headers are probably the best available, not withstanding their cost. However, in the latest issue #85, of YBM, he writes about bringing out a new version that should be about as effective, but less labor intensive to build. He is looking for customer input on this idea, so you should probably contact him.

O.K. So I am right in thinking that the only non fenderwell header on the market currently off the shelf is the Reds Header version of the classic early Hedman header, and another version log style without a flange. almost everything else is fenderwell or F100 only Yes / No. If someone can verify this would be great.

2DRHRDTP57 (7/23/2008) So I am right in thinking that the only non fenderwell header on the market currently off the shelf is the Reds Header version of the classic early Hedman header, and another version log style without a flange. almost everything else is fenderwell or F100 only Yes / No.Excluding the Thunderbirds and pickups, there isn’t much out there in the way of a conventional chassis header for the cars except the Reds design which mimics the old early Hedman log style. Haven't talked to Jerry about headers lately so don't know if he's had enough response to tool up for a less expensive header design for the cars.

Dutchy: If you can visualize a set that would fit your chassis, sbc headers come in many configurations. Cutting the flanges off and welding the tubes to Y flanges may provide you with a more modern design than the Reds and not be as expensive as having headers built from scratch. John in Selma, IN

Go Jerry, there has got to be a market out there for them, hell ebay sells dual manifolds all day long so people would probably buy a nice tuned header if they were available, I would for one.
