Finally got the Hemi engine hung the the Chrysler frame. Mocked up trans mount and will hang the 4 link rear end tomorrow. Slow movement is better than no movement. Maybe It will be done for next spring.

Hanging out with Rolling Bones should keep you motivated.

It's very hard now to keep on track with a street rod while hanging around the Rolling Bones hot rods. The Chrysler probably wouldn't do well with the bones look but I plan to be able to run fender less without too much work. The Bones cars are a very basic hot rod approach but with a lot of subtle changes. Gotta love em.

A little more progress today. Everything is fitted and tacked in so final welding can begin. I'm using a Bronco rear end and could use some 15" 5on5.5" slot mags if anyone has some gathering dust.

Today the frame is all welded mostly ground and sanded. Next step is paint and then reassembly. Will have a rolling chassis soon to take home and start on the plumbing. While I do that the body will be getting sand blasted. Getting there!

Did you make your boxing plates or buy them? I boxed the frame on my 61 F100 and what a job that was.

Can you re-drill the axles to 5x4.5, much easer to find wheels.

Great job Chuck! I know what you are going through. Slow progress IS better than no progress. Rono

Nobody makes boxing plates for a 28 Chrysler so they were all cut to fit. I'm also looking into re-drilling the axles to 4.5". Much cheaper way to go. I may eventually upgrade the axles but not now. I bought some adapters but they turned out to be metric studs and nuts so I'm returning them. Would have been a temporary fix anyway. Chuck

I wonder if people pay too much attention to boxing frames I have a mate, who has been running a blown C*&v6 in his 34 since the seventies , I was shocked as I found it recently the frame is not boxed and most of the parts are just bolt on.. Seen it run a flat 11 seconds [lifts the front left wheel clean off the ground] its run backwards and forwards across the full length of this country for heaps of nationals.. still going strong today, great testament for early Ford frames ...

Talkwrench, for every story like yours there is one about the frame breaking. That Hemi is no V-6. The weight and torque alone would justify boxing the frame. IMHO.

The Chrysler frame is a bulky 6" tall and 2" wide and possibly strong enough to hold the Hemi but I didn't want to chance it. I may be getting old but I'll still hammer the s&^t out of is on occasion. Also its part of the plan to have a decent street rod once in my life. Had way too many "in progress". Speaking of which the frame is done and in for primer and paint today!

Finally the 28 chassis is painted and should be back on four wheels in a couple of days. Cant wait to get it home and do the plumbing and wiring.
