Very Nice! One of my favorite years.What are your plans for it?
By MarkMontereyBay - 9 Years Ago
Plan is to just keep it up and leave it as it is. Good running flathead, 95% original paint, bone stock, about 80k or so miles and untouched. The interior is almost perfect original as well. Long story to this one as it is an amazing survivor. No turn signals, mechanical brakes, one tail light, etc. Easily handles 55-60MPH on the highway. Still has the paper sticker on the inside passenger windshield used for gas rationing during WWII. It does have new Coker original style tires. Not sure about my other cars (57 BIrd/65 Galaxie), may put one or both up for sale, but have to think about it for awhile.

So where did you find it ?   more pics please..
By MarkMontereyBay - 9 Years Ago
Bought from a couple in Independence, Ca. on the eastern side of the Sierras, near Bishop, Ca. They have had it for awhile and found it in a garage in Bullhead City, AZ. Took them 10 years to finally purchase it from the owners family. Stored in a dark garage for decades with a full hand made knitted car cover and the same to protect the interior.They did the brakes, belts, hoses, fluids,minor repairs, etc., but left it as they found it.

That is really sweet! Damn!

I think you hit the mother lode on that slant back. That is truly a once in a lifetime deal and I'm glad you are going to keep it original. I've been across the country a time or two with a bunch of old flat heads and they make the journey with little to no problems. You can still drive them anywhere. I'm going to the Hot Rod Hill Climb in Georgetown, Colorado August 15-16. Traveling with the Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop with their coupes and flat heads. Looks like great fun. Chuck

Always wanted a flathead. This one is original to the car and appears likely it has never been apart. Runs pretty good, no smoke, no overheating so far.. The previous owner went through the cooling system and upgraded the water pumps. He also did the brakes and the rear shoes had Ford script linings. That kind of tour looks fun but I would need to gain some significant confidence in the 78 year old motor before attempting that. Spent an hour or two driving around the local area out of traffic and got used to the mechanical braking today. I think they will be fine. Just took some time to get used to them.

That's a rare find indeed. Very glad to hear your leaving it as is. They are only original once and one that has been so well preserved is exceptionally rare. Beautiful car.

What a find! I usually like the Coupes but I'd take that in a NY minute. Beautiful car, glad it's out of hiding.

MAN! What a great find and less than an hour from where I live!! A really beautiful 37. When I finish mine we will have to get them together so they can get to know one another!

Ha! I stayed at the Holiday Inn on Sunday night in Bishop. Had to get to the bank for a wire transfer to the sellers. We put it on a trailer in Independence Monday morning and headed for Santa Cruz. The sellers drove the 37 up to Bishop every couple weeks to shop. Surprised you haven't seen it. Nice to revisit the "other" California, forgot how beautiful the mountain crests against the blue sky are. It was a fun trip.

Mark;
You should plan on coming back with either the 37 or your Bird for our big Fall Colors Car Show the first week in October. We had 350 cars last year. You could stay at our place if you want. Registration for the car show is on our website www.owensvalleycruisers.com

Ron,
Thanks for the offer. Seems like a great time and I will keep it in mind. Wish there was a better route from the coast to Bishop. Maybe it's time to think about a tow vehicle of some kind. My Ranger has the trailer tow package and limited slip but still too much of a weakling to cut that mustard. The seller towed it here with his 6.0 V8 scruby 3/4 ton and it was working pretty hard.

Mark;
I know what you are saying. I am very satisfied with my 08 Tundra (made in Texas!) for towing my aluminum dovetail car hauler. If you do get a new tow vehicle, we have parking for that too here.

Went over to a mate place on the weekend he was playing with these two  38 - 37's ..  The red 38 came from the U.S. but is right hand drive, originally from Africa and now in Western Australia,
 its been around!..

Hey, I was just looking at your post and these photos on the Ford Barn early V8 forum. I like that pickup too. From the U.S.to Africa to Australia has to be the one of the most traveled 38 ever.

Does it have a front drop axle or just big and little tires?
By Talkwrench - 9 Years Ago
Both, but I don't think the axle is a big drop... And the springs have been reset as well.  installed telescopic shocks, front anti sway bar and just recent a steering damper. Runs like a champ! http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/a385ef00-fc45-4bbd-9f2f-4e88.jpg
