Kinda warms the heart to see another scrub off the street.
By miker - 9 Years Ago
I'm with you guys, but looking at those I don't think that scrub spent much time on the street. At least where I live.

Sure look like boat headers to me.....

VERY NICE!! With those "white walls" on th front, she DESERVES a built y-block!! I LIKE it!!
By Cliff - 9 Years Ago
The white on the front wheels is tape, it makes sure the the wheel weights stay put.

Hey Cliff,
We can call them white walls if we want! Nice looking rig. Not your first rodeo. Have you talked any with Ted Eaton or John Mummert about making Y-power? There are some neat things happening. I guess the Meltdown Drags are out your way. Chuck

Hi, I have known John  for a while, I bought a nice set of ECZ-G heads and Ross pistons from him, Ted sent me a template in order to mount a powerglide to a Y Block (for free I only had to pay shipping, that was nice since he didn't know me), I work on this in my spare time however it's getting close, waiting for parts is a big problem, things like a powerglide to Y Block crank adapter (almost a year), the guy to finish the crank (over 6 months), I try to do most of my own work, but I only have a lathe, mill, seat and guide machine and a valve refacer, all else I have to farm out, so I get to wait.

PS thanks for the interest in my car

Nice to chat with you and see your car. Is that your collection scattered around or someones shop? I expect you are aware that we lost Randy Gumalt (rear engine Y dragster). I don't know whats going on with his car but you might ask Ted about it. I'd love to see someone keep it going if only in Randy's memory. No reason it couldn't be a good bracket racer while  blowing scrub minded people away. Chuck

That's all my crap, I know of Randys car, I don't know where it's gone, I have to much on my plate now, I am building 3 motors for the dragster, and running my business at the same time.

Obviously I don't have any info on the whereabouts of Randy Gumalt's dragster.. However, after he set the overall record years ago, I don't recall hearing any more about running it, but if I recall (?) that dragster comp chassis was previously used with a big Block scrub engine. Apparently it likely had skittish handling problems then & with the Y-block engine. If I recall properly, Randy could never keep his foot in it due to it's handling problems.

The car was striking the tires around the 1/8th mile and spining through the lights. He tried several things I think including a wing and didn't solve it. Last we talked he was saying he needed a sprung chassis to keep the tires planted. Appeared that the Y was making more mid range torque than the BBC? He had planned to race with his brother(?) and friends in Texas but I think they weren't that interested. Not long after that he started getting sick. I don't know if you met Randy but he was pure Texan through and through and a heck of a guy. He is missed by all. Chuck

If the chassis wasn't worthy I wonder where his Motor went? Maybe Ted has a clue? Thats worth saving for a museum.

For a museum?  Get a chassis that can handle it and put it back into action!

Randy’s son has all his old equipment, cars, and parts.  The dragster and the enclosed trailer is part of that collection.  Randy had just got a ’56 Ford Club Sedan up and running with a blown Y before his passing and that car is sitting dormant now with the collection.  Randy’s son would like to get the dragster going again but like many young and growing families, he simply doesn’t have the expendable income it takes to get the dragster back in shape to run competitively.
