For those of you that have installed a set of the "Aerostar" coil springs up front on your 55/56 Full size car, what shocks are running and do you like them? A few fellas told me to go with Monroe 5821 but there is not a stud on the lower mount, just the slotted tabs --- I assume that means they will bolt right up the existing holes on the lower control arm? I looked at a set of KYB's but they were 1" longer than stock.

Hi Daniel,

I just had some front end work done on my '56 Parklane, new cross member, various parts, Aerostar springs and shocks. I outsourced the work and will tell you what I know. I bought the KYB front shocks that an unmodified Parklane called for, and they've been installed. As far as I know, the guy didn't have any problems.

Love following your progress on the car, by the way. Looks like it's going to turn out great.

thanks for the kudos Mike. I did get the Monroe 5821's in the mail and they did not work. I thought the lower mounting tabs on the shock would have fit the original control arm holes but they did not. I think I will go with those KYB 4503's or the Gabriel 82026's. The Aerostar Coils do lower the car about 3" tho.

Went with the KG4503's. They fit well.

Probably a dumb question, but where do you get the adapters to allow installation of the single threaded shocks onto the t-style fitting on the cars?
By Daniel Jessup - 9 Years Ago
Not quite sure what you mean. Those "adapters" in the photos are stock parts that have always been on 55/56 Fords from what I know. I really do not know if any company sells them new.

I am glad I did not throw them out,I had put the newer style shocks on my 55 so they were not needed but recently bought correct shocks and found them in the garage.
