Lots of nice goodies there. I hope the parts aren't as fuzzy in real life.

NICE Winter project! Enjoy! The iron cylinder heads probably look better than the day they came from the foundry... The 'Bird valve covers with the breathers installed are a trip down memory lane. -They look nice! Are those Sanderson exhaust headers? Are you installing longer main cap bolts? Keep us posted on putting it together.

Parts are all supplied by John Mummer, his HP 292 kit. Just waiting on back ordered valve train assembly. Machine work is being done by a local shop Port Perry Engine and Machine. They have been VERY receptive to advice/ tips by John Mummert and Ted Eaton. Engine will be fully balanced and run on an engine dyno when complete. Hope to make close to 300HP, but will see with iron G heads. Oh and Thanks Ted for inspiration on the valve covers!

OH YEH!!!! LOL Can't wait to get everything together and run this on the dyno! Unfortunately though I will have to wait until at least April before I can get the car back on the road!

Rob. Looking good. You have to be chomping at the bit right now waiting to get this on the dyno and then back in the car for a test drive.

Your not kidding Ted!!!! LOL been a bit of a delay as my machinist had to make some modifications to his dyno (laser cut an engine plate) to fit the Y-Block. The machine shop (Port Perry Engine and Machine) has been primarily a scub performance shop, but the owner (Rob) has built a few Fords and was excited about building my Y-Block! He said it is nice to build something other than the cookie cutter, no brainer motors! LOL
I went with his shop as he was very receptive to any literature / advice from John Mummert and yourself. Also he did not have an issue with me providing all the Mummert parts. Now I am just keeping my fingers crossed that all has gone together well and that we can come close to (or surpass) one HP per cubic inch!!! Wish me luck!!! LOL

These #'s are with the stock manifolds, NON-ported "G" heads and little 570 CFM Holley! Headers should bring this motor over 300 HP!

Rob, great looking engine and great looking numbers. A couple questions if you don't mind. Q) What camshaft are you using? Q) Are the exhaust manifolds the 1957 and up, or the earlier ones? I can see why you would be pleased with what you have there. Congratulations. -Dave.

Dave,
I used a Mummert Y-284-S cam and all other parts from John (GREAT stuff!!). The manifolds are my stock 56 manifolds. I used them, as I did not want to drill my headers for the sensors. The nice thing is that I know I will be over 300 HP once I put my headers on! Other nice thing is that my engine builder said that another 30 / 40 HP is available to this motor with an MSD distributor and upgrading on my carb. Possible future upgrades if my wallet allows!!! LOL

Thank you for the response. Almost 300 hp through '56 manifolds, I like it. Your cam choice is just a bit larger than I would have guessed, but it's nice to see how it all worked together. Can't wait till I'm able to spend some money at John's candy store! -Dave.

When you are ready, talk to John about what you want to use the car for. Initially John was going to recommend a larger cam for my motor, but because it is primarily used as a street car, he said that any wilder and I might not like it on the street! Cam he selected for me, should be good on the street and in traffic, but also have enough kick to keep Lon Argent (in Bob Martin's Merc) in my rear view mirror!!!
