Ford 292 and Ford-o-matic question?

Has anyone used the Comp cams Classic Thumpr #37-600-5 cam
on their 292 engine? Also does anyone know of a company that makes 
an aftermarket stick shift for a Ford-o-matic trans? KJ

Can't help with the cam, but these guys have pretty good reviews on the HAMB. I haven't used them.

I checked with Lokar and they don't make one for a Ford-o-matic just the FMX!

The converters are pretty tight on the FOM trannies which makes them sensitive to being overcammed. The Isky E4 camshaft ground on 112° lobe centers works reasonably well with that tranny.  You might look at John Mummert's camshaft offerings and see what his grinds look like.

Mummert says the 265S cam @ 224 at .050 lift & 110 L A, works quite well with the Fordomatic. Some have used his 270 cam also, but I've seen one user comment that it's somewhat marginal.

I run a 265S cam on my '55 bird with a stock air-cooled fordomatic (292 .040 over, 113 heads milled to 67cc, true 9:1SCR, B intake/4160 carb, low ratio rockers).   2" exhaust all the way back, stock manifolds and mufflers.  

The car idles well, but aggressive enough to get noticed. It sounds marvelous under acceleration, and pulls strong from 2500 up.  It's all the cam I really want on the street.
