My dwell/tachometer doesn't work with my electronic ignition for some reason. It will read to 3000 rpm and then drop off, while the engine is still accelerating. I don't recall having that issue with points. I've borrowed an old Heathkit analog meter and a newer digital meter, like a multimeter and they both work and the tach inside the truck works so it's nnot like the ignition is generating a weird signal that most tachs cannot understand.
My timing light is a 15 year old Craftsman, pretty basic, the light flashes and that's it, no dial, no led display, no butt warmers.
I need to either get a dwell/tachometer that works or I can get a new timing light with that feature incorporated.
I'd prefer an analog dwell/tach so that limits options to used meters. I think Actron is the only new offering but it only indicates to 2000rpm and that is useless. What are some good vintage brands to look for?
The timing lights I'm interested in with the dwell/tach feature are Innova 5568, OTC 3367, and Craftsman Professional 14066, which looks like the OTC with a different plating job and branding. Does anyone here use one of these and is the incorporated tachometer actually practical and useful?
