Would you believe it?

My wife and I were having one of those discussions today when I was rambling on about a car I saw on the road next to us. It was a 2014 Mustang. I know she likes the newer style Mustang because it resembles the body lines to late 60's much more clearly. During our conversation, she informs me that she wants a Mustang for her 25th wedding anniversary. I laughed because ONE, our 25th anniversary is still 7 years away, and TWO, when I told her yep, let's get a '67! they put 390's in some of those, SHE stops me and says, "I want a Y block in it."

In disbelief I said, "you're kidding me, a y block Mustang for your 25th anniversary? you can't be serious."

She was. I almost feel like a need a video recording of all this because people just won't believe it.

What in the world?... anyone every shoehorn a Y block into a 60's Mustang? She doesn't want a race car. It would have to be daily driver style, maybe still able to hook up to the C4. It would have to have enough room for air, and she would want power steering and power brakes. Is all that even doable? I have worked on 2 or 3 of the 66 and 67 Mustangs and I remember what the shock towers were like for a 289/302... any pointers anyone?

It will probably take me 7 years to get this all together anyhow!

Dan, Greg Dietrich has one in a 66 mustang. I'll have to look to see if I have any pictures of it. I'm sure somebody has 'em.

Well, I owned a '67 390, and given the size of the FE's, I'd guess if you started with a 6 cyl car with the radiator forward, you could get a Rolls Merlin in. And the plug changes might be easier.

Seriously, my significant other has an off topic 67, and is just as enthusiastic as I am about the cars. It makes a great relationship.

She's got a decal of "Tinkerbell" with the logo "PSST, you just got passed by a girl". I'd send one along if it buys you some time.

Daniel, if my wife said that to me I would assume (even though "no shortcuts doesn't like that word" ) that the check has been signed!  Proceed forthwith and explain it will take 7 years to get things fine tuned.  Some guys are so lucky.

Fellas I am blessed to say the least. My wife has been very supportive. She has even helped me put a Y block in a 55 when I needed another hand to jimmy the motor in place. Somewhere on the forum there is a photo of her in her nightgown sitting in a 55 convertible while I am pushing it into the garage! Don't let her know that is out here. Rolleyes
