All,

I had a mild stroke a week ago. MY answers will be shorter now, not very good at typing with my left hand. Feeling fine, working on regaining me balance and the use of the right hand and leg, not fun. Eat your veggies!!

Frank, so sorry to hear that. Listen to the Doc, stay away from salt, fat, sugar, etc. All the good stuff. I'm sure you've heard it all. Please take care.

I had a setback recently myself. Heart backfired, now only circulating at ~25%. Cheap high, every time I stand up to fast I get dizzy. w00tw00t

Both of you guys need to make your health a priority! We are all so passionate about our Y Blocks and fortunate at our age that we have a pastime that we enjoy so much. Let's keep doing what we love to do as long as we can. In the words of Mr. Spock; "Live Long And Prosper"BigGrin

I worked for thirty years as a paramedic and our medical director suggested to us as a group that we should all be taking 1/2 aspirin (150mg) a day and not waiting till we have a stroke or heart attack before we start that treatment. In layman terms, Aspirin blocks platelet production which form blood clots which can cause both of these life threatening conditions. It is also thought to prevent colorectal cancer. You may bleed a little more if you cut yourself, but that is a small price to pay. Also a good idea to prepare yourself in the weeks before flying as a preventative of deep vein thrombosis.
I am sorry to hear that two of our forum ambassadors are not firing on all eight at the moment.
My thoughts and best wishes go out to you.

Frank, when I saw the tag line "stroke" on the forum page I thought that you were going to discussing "stroking another Y" and giving tech aspects and all. I never did read/see the intro. Sorry about that.

Our prayers are with you.

StaY strong my friend.

Frank. I was like Daniel in that seeing ‘stroke’ for the subject heading, I just thought that this was going to be about crankshafts. But being about the heart, that could be a show stopper. Glad you’re still able to function though so take that therapy serious. Hope to see you later in the year back at full speed.

While we are on this subject, has anyone heard anything about our friend Mickey Bogden's recovery from his stroke? Last word we've heard is that he is in therapy, but that's been a while ago.

Wow, sorry to hear Frank, all or prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery and yes there is some sort of epidemic going around, recently had a brother in law and my wifes boss had strokes, same age, same condition as of now but lived 2 different lifestyles, one abused himself all his life and the other lived the healthiest lifestyle, eating right, excercising every day etc. etc. etc. So what is causing it????

Frank and the rest of our dear friends on here, we all pray for your rapid recoverys and hope they are allready full upstairs and not taking anymore y blockers for a long while. On this subject i noticed a beautiful early speedboat on trailer yesterday outside out DMV here, i knew it was y block and bumped owner as he returned to it, i actually knew him and unfortunatley has a head tumor and had to hand in his drivers licence etc, he was resigned he would have to sell this beautifll 17" Lewis clinker boat had burr walnut top deck, chrome hatch hinges, a credit to his efforts. I think us older guys need to make hay while the sun shines! Best regards and good health to all.
By rick55 - 10 Years Ago
Bill, I think the old adage of drive it like you stole it is probably what we should all be doing as we get older. I always thought 75 was a good innings but as you get older you realize it may not be.
We should all appreciate every day we are vertical, as I like to say.
All the stories we have will be lost to future generations. Most youngsters nowadays don't even know what is under their hood let alone how it works. Suck, bang, squeeze, blow means something entirely new or foreign to them.

Hope your doing better Frank, stay safe, John
